Concrete Driveway & Patio Installation in Canton, MI

Canton subdivisions have rules. We build driveways and patios that pass them.

Much of Canton was built from the 1980s on, and a lot of those subdivisions have HOA rules on driveway width, materials and finish. When a Canton homeowner wants a new driveway and patio, the first step is often a packet for the association. We prepare what its review asks for, then work through Canton Township's own process: a compliance permit for residential flatwork and a forms inspection before the pour.

New concrete, planned around your Canton lot

The ground here is sandy outwash, which drains well and keeps frost heave down. The catch is settling, since loose sand compresses under weight unless the base is compacted in lifts. We build a full-depth 21AA base under both slabs and thicken the driveway where a truck or trailer will park. A patio with a door that needs a landing and steps goes through a building permit, so we flag that early.

The ground under Canton

Sandy outwash

Sand and gravel laid down by glacial meltwater along the Rouge and Huron rivers, from Plymouth and Canton down to Belleville and Ypsilanti.

Sandy ground drains far better than clay, so frost heave is less of a problem. The risk is the opposite one: loose sand settles under weight if the base isn’t compacted properly, so slabs sink at the corners and along the tire lines.

How we build in Canton

Compaction done in lifts, a full-depth aggregate base, and a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park.

What fails here first

  • Ruts along the tire lines
  • Gaps opening under the slab edge
  • A slab that rocks when you step on it
