Concrete Driveway & Patio Installation in Walled Lake, MI

Lake cottages turned year-round homes, with concrete to match the move.

Walled Lake is a small city on the south shore of the lake it's named after. Many of its older lake cottages have become year-round homes, and newer builds sit right beside them on rolling ground. A cottage driveway that was fine for summer weekends often struggles with daily use and Michigan winters. When we replace it and add a patio facing the yard or the water, both slabs start with a proof-rolled subgrade and a compacted base thick enough for glacial till.

New concrete, planned around your Walled Lake lot

Grade matters a lot near the lake. Runoff coming down a sloped lot needs a planned path around the slab, and the patio has to fall away from the house. We lay out both pieces together, check with the City of Walled Lake on what the project needs, and handle the MISS DIG ticket. Lots near the shore can be tight, so we plan truck access during the free estimate.

The ground under Walled Lake

Rolling glacial till

The hills of southern Oakland County, a mix of dense clay with pockets of sand and stone left by retreating glaciers.

Till is unpredictable from one end of a driveway to the other. A soft clay pocket next to a sandy one gives a slab uneven support, so it cracks and settles in patches. Add sloped lots and runoff coming downhill, and water management matters as much as the concrete itself.

How we build in Walled Lake

Proof-roll the subgrade to find soft spots, replace them, build a thicker compacted base, and plan the grade so runoff is carried around the slab.

What fails here first
  • Cracks and settling in uneven patches
  • Runoff washing across the driveway from uphill
  • Washed-out soil along slab edges
  • Steep driveways that ice over

Yes. We rebuild the base for daily traffic and plowing, and pour an air-entrained mix with reinforcement for freeze-thaw. A sealer before the first winter adds protection.
